Frequently Asked Questions
A few quick facts first;
- Lions has nothing to do with Rugby
- Lions is not a men only organisation
- It is not a religious organisation
Q. What is a Lions Club?
A. A Lions club is a group of people, men and women, who have come together to make a difference in their community. Since 1917 Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities.
Q. Are their many lions clubs around the world?
A. There are 1.4 million members in 48,000 clubs in 206 countries and geographical areas.
Q. If I join what’s in it for me?
A. You will get a great sense of satisfaction from making a difference in someone’s life that is less fortunate than you. You will have fun working with a group of like-minded people.
Q. How much of my time will my membership take?
A. Some members give a few hours a month, some a few hours a week and some even more. Clubs recognise that family and business commitments take first priority. You give as much time as you are able.
Q. How do I join?
A. Attend a few meetings to see if you like what we do, we can get to know you and you can decide if it is for you. Membership is then by invitation. Click here to contact us.
Q. How much does it cost to join?
A. Members pay a strictly one-off joining fee, usually around £25-£30 (depending on the US$ exchange rate; this covers the cost of our New Members Kit (Lion pin etc). A half yearly subscription of around £30 to cover the administration of the organisation is also paid by members, but this can be paid monthly if so desired.
